CONTRIBUTION OF RACHEL CARSON

Rachel Carson , writer, scientist, and ecologist, received her MA in zoology from Johns Hopkins University in 1932. She wrote several articles to teach people about the wonder and beauty of the living world. Also, she wrote some books – Under the sea-wind, The Sea Around Us, The Edge of the Sea, Silent Spring. In Silent Spring, she raised the alarm over ocean pollution and pesticides. The pollution in ocean and nature ecology seriously threatened the human life. If people don’t stop using pesticides, it will destroy the natural environment and poison human being.

The Pioneer of Environmental Protection Movement
The United States President John F. Kennedy read her book and decided to proceed with the investigation. The actual evidence from the investigation proved what Rachel Carson declared is true. Therefore, in 1972 United States Congress legislated to forbid using DDT. This is an important landmark in Environmental Protection Movement History.
